2019igh-intensity interval training? Cross-fit? Waist training? They sure might be trendy, but we’ve seen far too many of our Aventura patients end up on the adjustment table complaining of strained muscles, herniated discs, or worse, just for trying to get their exercise in.

We get it: traditional workouts and trips on the treadmill might get boring. But there are a plethora of wellness activities that can keep you healthy without causing more harm than good. If you’re trying to get fit in 2019, check out these chiropractor-approved wellness activities in Aventura.

1. Yoga in the Park

Did you know that the city of Aventura hosts a series of complimentary yoga classes at Founders Park for all yogis to enjoy? Whether you’re a beginner or a certified yoga-expert, all are welcome to take part in the free classes. Every Friday at 9 a.m. join other yoga enthusiasts to relax, stretch, and get a gentle work out.

Yoga mats are provided if necessary, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own mat, a small towel, and water for your own comfort and convenience. Classes run for approximately one hour. Registration for Founders Park is not necessary. However, Aventura residents are encouraged to obtain a park ID prior to the class to expedite the access-process. While the class is free, non-residents will be required to pay the entrance fee for the park ($5 per adult and $3 per child under the age of 18).

Yoga helps you relax the body and mind. Not to mention, yoga is a safe way of stretching the body’s muscles and joints. Contact Founders Park today to learn more.

2. Aventura BCycle

If you’re not yet familiar with the BCycle program, you should definitely check it out. Located at the Aventura Mall Transit Station and the Yacht Club, BCycle is a program that allows residents to rent bicycles. Choose a 7-day or annual membership, or simply rent a bike as a guest for the day. Each bike rental features a complimentary helmet to ensure your safety as you ride.

Single rides available at each BCycle Station are $5 for 30 minutes and another $5 each 1/2 hour increment thereafter. The max charge per day is $50. If you’re planning on going for a longer ride, you might choose to sign up as a 7-day member: the cost is only $25 for the week. Plus, your online profile will track your ride, let you know how much carbon offset you’ve achieved by opting to bike, and how many calories you’ve burned.

Simply sign up online, or visit one of the BCycle Stations to get started. Use the touch screen at the kiosk to check out the bike. Enjoy your ride and return your bike to any BCycle station in the area to end your session. Visit the Aventura BCycle site for more information.

3. Fitness Boot Camp

If you prefer something a bit more high-intensity than yoga, check out Founder Park’s Fitness Boot Camp classes. Open to the public Saturdays at 9:30 a.m., these complimentary classes take advantage of the park’s trail and existing exercise stations. Aimed at improving cardiovascular and pulmonary endurance, as well as overall conditions, this fun and interactive workout is a safe and effective way to stay in shape.

As with Yoga in the Park, registration is not required and classes are open to fitness buffs of all levels. Entrance to the class is free for Aventura residents, but non-residents will be asked to pay the $5 fee for adults and $3 fee for children under 18. Be advised: you’ll want to bring along a small towel and water bottle. Check out the City of Aventura website for more information. The webpage for Boot Camp at Founder’s Park can no longer be found.
