On Saturday, July 6, an explosion rocked the Market on University shopping plaza, leveling multiple businesses and injuring several members of our community. It is with a heavy heart that we report the ChiroCare of Florida Plantation office was one of more than 20 businesses damaged by the blast. Thankfully, our office was closed and no one was injured.
However, we know that not everyone was as lucky. Our hearts are with everyone affected – our fellow business owners, loyal customers of the plaza, and most importantly, the victims physically and emotionally impacted by the blast. Currently, we are assessing the damage and will have an update for all of our Plantation patients as soon as possible.
The team at ChiroCare of Florida is wishing a smooth and speedy recovery to the 23 injured by Saturday’s blast. By current reports, all but four of the 19 who went to hospitals have been released, and are hopefully healing at home with their families. Fortunately, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Of course, we cannot thank the brave men and women of the Plantation Police and Fire Departments enough for their rapid and extraordinary response to the explosion. We extend our sincerest gratitude to all first responders and emergency medical personnel who tirelessly searched for victims, treated the injured, and kept the peace at such an emotionally trying time.
Material possessions, the walls and windows of structures, and businesses themselves can be replaced and rebuilt. But, the valued members of our community cannot. For their safety, and for the safety of all in the plaza that day, we are eternally thankful.
Authorities are still investigating the source of Saturday’s explosion, but currently, the consensus seems to be a gas leak. At the moment, it appears the blast originated from a former pizza shop at the north end of the Market on University plaza, just a few storefronts away from our offices. Cleanup has begun on the plaza, but we are not yet sure as to the extent of damage our office has sustained.
We understand that at the moment, our community is recovering. Your last thought is likely when your next chiropractic appointment may be. However, for those of our patients concerned about a possible upcoming appointment at the Plantation office, we encourage you to contact us with any questions or to reschedule at one of our 10 alternate locations. Likewise, we are working with local chiropractors in the area to use their facilities to treat our patients until we find a temporary space to operate out of. Rest assured we will keep you updated when that temporary location opens.
The city of Plantation will host a group crisis intervention at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, in partnership with The Florida Crisis Response Team. The meeting will be held at Plantation Central Park, 9151 NW Second St. The team at ChiroCare of Florida urges any Plantation residents who experienced the blast or are still processing the shock of the situation to gather with the community.
As with all tragedies, we will get through this unexpected disaster together. Please contact us to reschedule today.
