Summer Party Perils: Stay Safe in Aventura

When Aventura residents think about summer, their mind immediately goes to summer parties, water sports, water parks, days by the beach, and plenty of summer heat to deal with. Summer months can be a lot of fun, especially if the kids are out of school. But, with all the partying and exciting activities, there are a lot of dangerous situations that can ruin our summer and leave us confined to bed instead.

The chiropractors at ChiroCare of Florida in Aventura don’t want this to happen to any of you, which is why they’ve created this quick guide on how to stay safe in Aventura during the summer.

Planning Ahead for Summer Party Safety

First of all, if you’re planning a summer party, know you’re somewhat responsible for everyone that attends. Think of all the partying risks involved and how you can throw a fun party while still keeping conditions safe for your guests. Here are some ideas on how to plan ahead to make sure no one suffers any injuries.

Plan for the hot weather: Attending a summer party can mean you’ll be exposed to unbearable heat. Plan ahead and make sure your guests have some shade to hide from the sun, keep ice cubes and ice popsicles around so everyone can cool off when they need to.

Be mindful with your food: No one wants to enjoy a steamy soup under the summer sun. Instead choose hydrating veggies like celery, cucumbers, and lettuce paired with dips and simple meals to make sure no one gets overheated.

Offer plenty of soft drinks: Alcohol can be extremely dehydrating, not ideal under the heat. Alcohol can also lead to potential violent party situations that stop the fun for everyone else. Bring soft drinks and plenty of water to make sure everyone stays hydrated.

Do a quick home inspection: Make sure your guest will stay safe no matter where they are. Check for anything broken on the deck, or if you see any trip hazards around your home. Make sure your backyard pathways are well-lit, and that there are no obstacles in the way.

Make sure your guests get home safe: Finally, no matter what, if any of your guests have been drinking, get them a taxi or see if someone is willing to drive them home.

Watersports Safety Tips to Keep In Mind

Summer in Aventura equals plenty of watersports activities and boating parties. However, when it comes to boating and watersports activities, safety should be your number one concern. Whether you’re fishing, swimming, water skiing, scuba diving, or boating, think about all the risks involved. No matter what type of activity you’re doing this summer, keep these safety tips in mind.

You should know how to swim: Do not attempt to participate in any of these summer activities if you’re not an advanced swimmer.

Watch your children: When it comes to watersports and activities, children can be fearless. If you’re planning a water-themed summer party, make sure children are always supervised by adults, at all times.

Wear a life jacket: Even if you’re an advanced swimmer, you can become incapacitated after a watersports accident. Having the life jacket will keep you afloat until help arrives.

Never go alone: If your ideal summer activity involves boating, swimming, scuba diving, or fishing, make sure to bring a friend or two with you.

Let people know your plans: If you’re planning a fishing or scuba diving trip with friends, let someone else that’s not coming about your plans. If anything were to happen, someone would at least know where to start looking for you.

Follow the rules: Whether you’re at a lake, river, or on the ocean, they each have different rules. Stay in navigable water, monitor your wakes, and maintain distance between other boats and watercraft. Look out for people in the water, and be on high alert for water skiers or boat tubers.

Wear sunscreen and proper attire: The summer heat and sun in Aventura can often be ruthless. Make sure to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Reapply sunscreen after being in the water, and as often as recommended. Wear good sunglasses to protect your eyes, and wear the proper attire for watersports to keep your skin protected.

Avoid alcohol: If you’re practicing any watersports-related activity, you should not be drinking. Mixing alcohol with this activity will only place you and those around you at risk of a terrible accident.

Water Park Safety Tips

If the traffic in Aventura seems lighter during the summer months it's because most of its residents are in a water park somewhere. Perfect for all ages, water parks are the best option for Aventura residents to cool off and have a blast at the same time. However, water parks can be incredibly dangerous if you don’t keep these water park safety tips in mind.

Everyone should have the right equipment: If you’re planning a visit to a water park with kids, ensure they all know how to swim and that they have the proper floats and life jackets to prevent any accidents.

Obey the park rules: Read all signs before sending your children off to play, to make sure they’re practicing all safety tips. Make sure to locate lifeguards in case anything happens, that way you’ll know exactly where to go to for assistance.

Never leave children alone: Not even for a second. The risks of accidents in water parks extend beyond the pools. Because there’s water everywhere and people coming in, and out of the pools, surfaces can be slippery, and children (and adults) can wander around and slip.

Use the buddy system: This system is often used for children, but adults should follow this tip as well. If anyone wants to wander around the park, make sure they have a friend to go with them, so they’re never alone.

Stay hydrated: People often think that because they’re in the water, they don’t need to drink more water. The reality is that, under the summer heat we lose a lot of water content. Make sure you stay hydrated with fresh water to drink and stay away from dehydrating drinks like coffee and alcohol.

Shield yourself from the sun: Not only you should be wearing sunscreen and reapplying it throughout the day. But, you should also do your best to shield yourself from the sun as much as possible. Wear hats, sunglasses, and water t-shirts to make sure your skin doesn’t suffer severe sunburn.

Wear water shoes: Because the floor and other surfaces can be very slippery, the rubber bottoms of water shoes can prevent a slip and fall incident.

Listen to your body: Water parks can be a lot of fun. But, you should also pay attention to your body and your family’s. Heatstroke can be subtle at first, but it can quickly escalate if you don’t pay attention to its symptoms. Watch out for signs like breathing problems, irritation in the nose and eyes, and sudden lack of energy.
